Claude Desktop for Product Managers

Learn to do your actual job with AI, by doing your actual job with AI.

This is a hands-on course for product managers and product leaders. You’ll use Claude Desktop the way you’d work with a sharp colleague: synthesizing discovery, framing problems, testing risky ideas cheaply, producing delivery artifacts, and taking a product to market. Built by experienced product managers and educators. No hype, no code, no terminal.

One thing to be clear about up front: this website is the map, not the classroom. The learning happens inside Claude Desktop, working on real files with Claude as your instructor. Use these pages to navigate, recap, and find your way back when you’re lost; every module page here ends with a rescue prompt for exactly that.

  • PMs who keep hearing “just use AI” and want something more useful than a list of prompts
  • Product leaders who want their teams working this way, credibly and consistently
  • Consultants, founders, and aspiring PMs who do product work without the title

Any level of product experience works. Zero Claude Desktop experience is assumed.

  • You learn on realistic product work, not toy demos
  • One continuous story: you carry the same product from raw discovery all the way to launch
  • Every lesson tells you why and when the move matters in your real week before asking you to practice it
  • Every lesson ends with a review checklist, so you always know whether your work passed
  • Claude facilitates as your instructor, checks your work honestly, and hands every judgment call back to you
  • You’re never stranded: say “I’m lost” at any point and Claude stops, re-orients you, and offers a way forward, no judgment
  1. Download the course folder and unzip it. One click, no account, no installs beyond Claude Desktop itself. (New to this? The Start Here guide walks you through every step.)
  2. Open Claude Desktop and point a Cowork session at course-materials/.
  3. Say: “I’m starting the course. Read COMPANION_INSTRUCTIONS.md and take me to Module 0.”

This site is the quick-reference layer: recaps, lookups, and the map of where you are. The folder is the course.

Seven modules, one product story:

  1. Getting Set Up: Claude Desktop in plain PM English, and how the course works
  2. Fundamentals: read, synthesize, structure, edit, verify
  3. Problem Space: discovery synthesis, segments, personas, JTBD, framing
  4. Shaping the Opportunity: name the bet, build the minimum viable narrative, prototype with Artifacts, pressure-test, decide
  5. Delivery Artifacts: PoC slice, epic, stories, PRD last
  6. Advanced Workflows: Projects, Skills, connectors, loops and goals
  7. Taking It to Market: messaging, demo, GTM, rollout, automated reporting

Confidence isn’t evidence. Every Claude Desktop capability appears at the moment the product story needs it, and every concept you shape ends in a real decision: go, no-go, or revise and retest. No maybe.

This course is built and taught by Dean Peters, an AI product management instructor, advisor, and coach for Productside. When you’re ready for live training, team workshops, or a coach with opinions, find him at deanpeters.substack.com.
